Visiting the Library
Booking an appointment
You do not need to make an appointment to visit the Library and drop-ins are very welcome – but letting us know of your visit in advance does mean we can have material ready for you on arrival. This can be especially helpful if you are consulting large amounts of archival material or any sound material.
Please also note that some material is off-site and will require advance notice to order in. If there is something specific you would like to see, you can check its location on our Library Catalogue. If an item is off-site, the location will be listed as “Off-site storage.” Please contact us at [email protected] with at least one week's notice to request any off-site items.
Reading Room Guidelines
Water bottles with secure lids are allowed but no other food or drinks, please. These can be consumed elsewhere in the building.
We ask that you please use pencils rather than pens when consulting material.
Complete silence is not necessary (the building can sometimes be quite noisy) but please take any phone calls outside the Reading Room.
For information on taking personal photos of material and making photocopies see our reprographics policies.

Support us, and support the folk arts
We champion folk music and dance at the heart of cultural life, all across England.
Donations provide immediate support. But even more than that, they prove that so many people value what we do – helping us to secure funding from partner organisations.
